THE SKIN

Multidimensional Research
We have to carry the skin around with us every day. Our appearance tells the environment apparently what it looks like inside. It stigmatises the condition and the person. Its external appearance suggests the interior. Skin color is still a feature that discriminates or privileges people.
The texture of the skin, pimples, dry skin, greasy skin, etc. additionally determine how the human is perceived. People try to shake off their stories, scratch off, strip. They let their wrinkles smooth, shave off all hair and clean up any bumps and resistances until they are as smooth as Plexiglas. People smooth the surfaces until everything shines and they slip off each other.

Performativ Research
At the intersection of biology, performance and poetry, I look at the structures and functions of the skin and want to find out what skin tells, as the first perceptible border across other boundaries in which we live. The performers examine their skins with their own physical powers: stretching, expenditure, irritation. Choreographic movement, which explores the extensibility of the skin, meets the wrinkles that form when the body collapses. We try to work out what the skin is, how it reacts, what it is good for, what we see in it, how we treat it.

Biological Research

Searching for ways of visualization for biochemical and molecular structures of the human organism and the question of how the real body can be experienced in its complexity.

Textproduction
Also in several texts my biological perspective on skin is connected with the idea that the individual history of each person is becoming apparent in their skin over the years. It also deals with the importance of the skin as a protective organ in relation to social boundaries. It also shows the urge of humans to manipulate or even prevent the function and the aging processes of the skin. Already in
the typeface, the idea of the skin is found again, so that structures become visible. For example chemical structural formulas that reference the collagen and elastin fibers contained in our skin are used as text characters and are visible in the typeface.
