What are the secrets of large swarms of animals? How do they coordinate their joint movements? It doesn’t matter whether it’s the synchronized courtship dance of the flamingos or the mass migration of the monarch butterfly – thousands and thousands of individuals merge into a single movement.

How can this material be harnessed choreographically? The focus of this research is on the questions of which new movement patterns can be developed from this and how a collective “mass choreography” can arise through joint improvisation.
